As a current K-12 student in New Haven, CT, I know the great importance to having a diverse curriculum and being granted the opportunities to learn about the story of others. Due to the lack of representation of Asian-Americans in the current CT curriculum, growing up, I always felt insignificant in the classroom and did not regard Asian-Americans with any importance to US history. A large part of my identity was lost, and I grew up looking down upon my Asian heritage. I am committed to the development of the Asian-American history curriculum because I do not believe that any student should lose a piece of their identity due to the American school curriculum. For the future generations, I strive to develop a more inclusive environment that will allow each student to feel appreciated and valued in their classroom.
